What this plan can tell you
Enter finished inside room dimensions in inches. Measure the widest furniture footprint, including arms and projections. Rectangular footprints move on a one-inch grid; the coordinate origin is the top-left corner. Width runs left to right, depth runs top to bottom. Rotate swaps those two dimensions.
Red outlines identify overlapping furniture, out-of-room footprints or door-swing conflicts. Rugs may sit under furniture. Green walking lanes are movable rectangles: they check only the routes you place, not every possible journey across the room. A clear result is not a safety, accessibility or delivery guarantee.
Clearances, door swings and assumptions
The starting walking-lane target is 36 inches, informed by the US Access Board’s accessible-route guidance. That guidance has additional requirements and exceptions; this tool is not an ADA compliance checker. Your home, mobility equipment and local requirements may need more room. Confirm with a qualified professional where relevant.
Doors are simplified inward-opening 90-degree sectors with a selectable hinge end. Measure the actual leaf for the swing radius. The width is not the usable clear doorway opening. The model omits thickness, handles, outward swings, sliding doors, thresholds and vertical clearances. Windows are position markers only; measure sill heights and access needs yourself.
Gap readouts are the shortest straight-line distance between rectangular footprints, not a continuous navigable path. A low gap can be intentional beside a coffee table. The 18-inch coffee-table spacing used by the example is an editable planning assumption, not a rule or certification.
Worked example: why the gap matters
In the 192 × 168-inch starter room, the sofa begins 12 inches from the top wall and is 38 inches deep: its front ends at 50. The coffee table begins at 68. That leaves 68 − 50 = 18 inches between them. Move the table to 44 and the footprints overlap by 6 inches. The live checks flag that conflict.
Compare possibilities without losing your starting point
Save your current drawing in a browser slot, then try “Mirror furniture.” It reflects furniture positions but leaves the actual doors and windows unchanged. It is an alternative to evaluate, not an automatically optimized layout. Recheck the warnings, save another slot, and compare the drawings and issue counts.
Before ordering or moving furniture
Tape footprints and walking routes on your floor. Open doors fully. Include drawers, recliners, pulled-out dining chairs, radiators and other projections as extra measured footprints. Check windows, outlets, ventilation and the full delivery route. Do not infer measurements from the inspiration image.
