The Elevated Estate is committed to making its guides, calculators, and planning tools usable by as many people as reasonably possible. Accessibility is an ongoing practice, not a one-time claim.
Our target
We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA as our working target when creating and reviewing the website. We do not claim that every third-party component or every page is fully conformant today.
Current design requirements
- Contrast: Essential text and controls should meet WCAG AA contrast targets and must not rely on color alone to communicate meaning.
- Labels: Form controls need visible, descriptive labels, instructions, units, and understandable error messages.
- Keyboard use: Navigation, calculators, consent choices, quizzes, and expandable content should work without a mouse and without keyboard traps.
- Focus: Interactive elements need a visible focus indicator that is not hidden by fixed content.
- Text alternatives: Informative images require useful alternative text; decorative imagery should be ignored by assistive technology.
- Structure: Pages should use meaningful headings, landmarks, tables, lists, and reading order.
- Zoom and reflow: Content should remain usable when text is enlarged and on narrow mobile screens without requiring unnecessary horizontal scrolling.
- Motion: Nonessential animation should respect reduced-motion preferences.
- Targets: Important controls should provide comfortable touch and pointer targets with enough spacing to avoid accidental activation.
Features currently available
- A skip link that moves keyboard users directly to the page content.
- Visible focus indicators for links, buttons, form controls, and other interactive elements.
- Responsive layouts, semantic headings, descriptive link text, and labeled primary navigation.
- Reduced-motion support and text alternatives for informative imagery.
- Design tools that do not require account creation or sensitive personal information.
Third-party content and known limitations
Some newsletter, retailer, advertising, or other third-party experiences are controlled outside The Elevated Estate and may not provide the same level of accessibility. Complex visual previews may also communicate spatial relationships more richly than their text descriptions. We are continuing to improve text explanations, keyboard testing, contrast, form errors, print behavior, and zoom support throughout the 30-day readiness sprint.
