The Window Dressing Studio

Curtains that look custom-made.

Use the four measurements that determine the real installation, then receive a rod, length, fullness, and panel plan you can take shopping.

01

Your space

Measure the installation

Measure in inches. For finished length, measure from the floor to the top edge of the window frame.

02

Your preference

Choose the finished look

How full should the curtains feel?
How much wall can the open curtains use?
How will the panel hang from the rod?
How should the hem meet the floor?

Your custom measurement plan

A polished, floor-considered finish.

01Rod width84″

Approximately 12″ beyond each side of the frame. Choose hardware rated for at least 84″ and use a center support or the manufacturer’s required bracket arrangement.

02Mount above frame8″

Mount approximately 8″ above the frame, leaving about 2″ below the ceiling.

03Panel count4

50″ panels provide 200″ of fabric, or 2.38x actual fullness.

04Ideal panel length90″

The 90″ ready-made length should work with little or no adjustment. The panel length is calculated from the rod or panel top to the finished hem. Confirm the header construction on the product listing.

Shopping note

Look for 4 panels at 50″ wide × 90″ long, plus a rod that adjusts to at least 84″.

Hardware allowance: The panel length is calculated from the rod or panel top to the finished hem. Confirm the header construction on the product listing.

Before you order

Three checks prevent most curtain mistakes.

  1. 01

Confirm the hanging point. Rings, clips, pockets, and hooks can change the finished length.

  2. 02

Check wall clearance. Finials, brackets, furniture, and nearby corners may limit rod extension.

  3. 03

Measure twice after hardware is installed. Floors and ceilings are not always level, so hem only after the rod is secure.
