What should I do when the room-size and table-size ranges disagree?

For a chandelier centered over a dining table, give the table proportion more weight, then compare it with the room result as a scale check. Fixture shape and visual weight matter too, so tape or mock up the proposed width before ordering.

Does the calculated diameter include the chandelier's chain, cord, or fixture height?

No. The diameter result describes width. Check the canopy, fixture body, minimum and maximum drop, chain or cord, and ceiling attachment separately to confirm the complete installed height.

Why is the hanging-height advice different over a table and in an open walkway?

A table protects the space beneath the fixture, so a chandelier can hang lower there. In a foyer, bedroom, or open circulation area, the bottom of the fixture needs enough head clearance for people to walk safely below it.
