The design notes

What makes this room work.

01

Use the garden as the second view

Angle a seat so the room can support conversation while acknowledging the outlook. Keep furniture clear of the door’s actual opening. A courtyard should feel easy to reach, rather than like a scene behind a barrier of furniture.

02

Make clay the warm note

Terracotta works here as a substantial upholstered shape against lighter architecture. Repeat its warmth in a ceramic or artwork, not in every accessory. Compare rust, clay, and orange samples carefully; they do not behave as interchangeable colors.

03

Keep the geometry simple

A low, substantial coffee table can ground curved seating and arched openings. Let one or two forms carry the room. Check the actual edge profile, cleaning method, and table reach before choosing a sculptural piece.

Make it yours

Borrow the idea.

You can borrow the palette without adding arches. Use a pale wall, a rust textile, and one dark table, then arrange the room toward an existing window.

Before you bring it home

  • Keep the courtyard door and route usable.
  • Test clay upholstery beside existing flooring.
  • Ask about fade resistance for strongly sunlit furniture.
