Balance the sofa with an open edge
Pair a substantial sofa with a chair or table that shows some floor beneath it. This can keep the seating group from feeling like a solid block. Face the seats toward each other where conversation matters, and check that everyone has somewhere reachable to put a drink. A television can share the room without dictating every chair angle.
Compare the greens in your actual light
Olive velvet can look brown, bright green or nearly black depending on light and pile direction. Order a sample and view it vertically beside your wood finish. Keep nearby textiles quieter so the sofa remains the main color decision. A cognac accent can add warmth, but it need not be an exact match to the timber.
