Chocolate & curves
Deep chocolate walls, an ivory curved sofa, and a wine-toned accent create a living room with evening presence.

The design notes
What makes this room work.
Make the sofa the lightest shape
An ivory sofa gives a dark room a clear focal point. Keep the largest surrounding surfaces in a related brown family, then introduce a single deeper red accent. Test the wall color next to your upholstery under the lamps you actually use.
Trace the curve before you buy
Curved sofas occupy space differently from straight ones. Mark the full footprint, including the widest point, and test where a table can sit within reach. Leave an uninterrupted route behind or beside the group rather than squeezing traffic through its center.
Use art to loosen the composition
One expressive painting can add movement against substantial furniture. Pull a small amount of ochre or burgundy from the artwork into the room, leaving the rest of the surfaces relatively quiet. Try paper at the intended art size before committing.
Make it yours
Borrow the idea.
Keep an existing pale sofa and introduce chocolate through the wall behind it. A curved chair or round table can supply the softer geometry without replacing the whole seating group.
Before you bring it home
- Check the full curved footprint, not only sofa width.
- Compare brown samples in both daylight and lamplight.
- Confirm upholstery care before choosing a pale fabric.
