Cypress & Rosso: A Marble Dining Kitchen

Glossy almond cabinetry, cypress lacquer and Rosso Orobico marble create a functional dining kitchen with expressive color and measured clearances.

Full-height glossy almond cabinetry keeps the perimeter calm while a cypress-lacquer island and fluted-walnut end panels create depth at the center. Rosso Orobico-style marble appears as a concentrated backsplash and returns at the dining table, where aubergine chairs absorb its darker veining. Matte-black pendants with gilded interiors add focused warmth without introducing another bright metal across the whole kitchen. The island, dining zone and appliance wall were planned in their open positions so seated diners, drawers and doors do not claim the same strip of floor.

The design notes

What makes this room work.

Map the kitchen with every door and chair in use

Tape the island, overhang, stools or standing zone, dining table and chairs, then add the full opening of each appliance, cabinet and drawer. Test the route while one person is seated and another carries a tray. If movements overlap, shorten the island, reduce seating or shift the dining table before ordering stone.

Use Rosso marble as a controlled repeat

Review the actual slabs or table for color, veining, finish and natural variation. Repeat the material at two related focal points, but keep the remaining counters quiet so the burgundy pattern retains hierarchy. Confirm weight, seams, floor support, packaged access, sealing and care before fabrication or purchase.

Separate preparation light from pendant drama

Provide continuous high-quality task light at the work surface, use the black-and-gild pendants as a decorative layer and keep a separate ambient source for the room. Mock up pendant width, spacing and bottom height, then check cabinet doors, sight lines, ceiling support, bulbs, dimming and color rendering with the actual finishes.

Make it yours

Borrow the idea.

Keep sound cabinetry and add glossy almond with professionally finished doors or removable panels, then confine cypress to the island base or a freestanding console. A Rosso marble board, tray or small table can carry the dramatic stone without a full slab installation, while aubergine chair covers add the dining note. Use plug-in or hardwired task lighting only where electrical, heat and moisture requirements are properly addressed.
